App Stops When Phone Screen Dims #10

Thanks for Trigger happy, it's been fun to play with. I've been particuarly interested to use it for time lapse shooting with my 350D and old spare iPhone3Gs.

I had initial success with 5 second intervals for 20 miniutes etc. and put a couple of hunred photos into a short time lapse video.

But, when I try to take say 30 second intervals intervals for 3 hours I get about 2 photos then nothing. From my effort this morning the photo timestamps indicate 8:03:04, 8:03:34, 9:35:58 and 9:36:28.

When I went to check and opened open up the app, it had stopped after about 2 minutes and then re-started. The last two photo timestamps were from when I went out to check how things were going. It is like the app has stopped when the phone screen turns off.

I would have thought that the app should keep the phone alive while it is operating or do I have to manually change the settings on the phone or is there some docmentation I've overloked? Your guidance and assistance would be appreciated on this as I'm looking to do a couple of afternoon long sporting carnivals like this and at the moment it's not looking good.

I’ve done a little more investigating and can add a little light.

The issue does not occur on my iPhone4S, shooting continues as I’d hoped with 30 second intervals etc. (of course the problem for me is that I don’t want to leave my phone unattended for a few hours so my old 3GS is my preferred option).

Also, when the screen goes off on the 3GS the app seems to pause (i.e. the countdown timer stops then restarts when I turn the screen back on) but by then the camera has gone to sleep and no longer responds to the signal. On the 4S the continuous triggering (30 second intervals) keeps the camera awake. I’d assume however that I would have an issue if my interval timer is longer than the camera sleep interval, but I have not tried this.

Interestingly, on the 3GS if the interval is short (i.e. 5 seconds interval, 5 minute duration, 2 minute autolock on phone, 2 minute Auto power off on 350D) the shooting seems to continue, it is only with the longer intervals (30 sec) that issues eventually arrive during long duration shoots with the process stopping somewhere.

Would love it if the 3GS could work as I hope, but can kind of get around it for now with a combination of phone and camera sleep settings.
