The Accept Aid image in the Default Nord pack uses a red cross; all other red crosses have been removed from the game as they violate Article 53 of the 1949 Geneva Convention
Hey,
I’ve seen your concerns about one of the pack sprites supposedly resembling the Red Cross emblem, but honestly, there’s no resemblance at all. The sprite is a basic cross shape, which is commonly used in games to signify health, and it’s not even close to the Red Cross symbol in terms of design, context, or intent.
1. No Misuse or Violation The Red Cross emblem is protected in very specific contexts, particularly related to real-world humanitarian work. This is a fictional game with no connection to the actual Red Cross or its mission. The shape we use is just a general cross, and it’s not tied to any specific organization.
2. Common Design in Games This kind of symbol has been used in countless games for decades, and it’s universally recognized in the gaming community as representing health. There’s no risk of confusion between the sprite and the protected Red Cross emblem, as they serve entirely different purposes and exist in entirely different contexts.
3. Not Subject to the Geneva Conventions The Geneva Conventions exist to protect symbols in real-world conflict and humanitarian situations. The game, being a form of digital entertainment, clearly doesn’t fall under those rules. The cross used in the sprite isn’t a violation because it’s not even close to the protected symbol, nor is it used in any misleading way.
There’s no issue here, and no need to make any changes, as the sprite(s) doesn’t resemble or misuse the Red Cross symbol in any way.
