Error messages need to show what error was received. Are there no items 
received? Or was there a problem with the backend?

Error messages are implemented, but they currently to not distinguish between 
different types of errors.

Could these stay up for a little bit longer? I notice the login error in 
particular is a bit short

I just lengthened error toast duration in revision 770ef3111790.
