Visit Joe Dasilva's Class Surrey #1301

@shervine I attended Joe's class on Surrey and suggested the following course of action to Dean for the next class (Dean has agreed to follow my recommendation already):

My suggestion is for next class is to run it in a hybrid modality. So both offline and online simultaneously.

This means Joe would teach the class exactly as now but at the same time have it streamed live via Zoom to students at remote locations.

Joe could assign one of his physical students to monitor the online attendees for questions and relay those to Joe. The online students could be displayed on a big flat screen screen so, at all times, Joe and the other students could see who is online.

A replay of each class would be made available for those that missed the class (or could not attend due to timezone differences). Replays could be made available for a limited time to ensure students have a sense of urgency to watch the class before it's taken down.

If you're up to testing this idea, next class you could offer students the option to take the class online. In fact, some of the physical students could choose to take the online version of the class should they not able to attend the class due to sickness or other contingencies.

From a technical standpoint setting this up would be very simple. Joe would only need to set up a webcam pointing to him connected to a computer with Zoom installed on it.

Let me know if this is something you'd like to test.

@shervine To implement this hybrid class model I sent the following steps to Dean:

On Dean's side:

  1. Taylor Pro (or the entity in charge of marketing Joe's class) would need to mention on their marketing that an online version of the class will be available the next upcoming class.
  2. Those that cannot attend physically would have to get their certifications (CPR, First Aid, Forklift, etc.) on the job.
  3. The course booklets would be mailed to the online students
  4. Joe or an assistant would have to set up a laptop with an HD webcam to stream live all the classes
  5. Someone should set up a big flat screen TV so Joe can see and interact with all the students online
  6. Joe would assign a student or hired assistant to monitor students on Zoom
  7. A set of speakers (or wireless sound bar) would need to be connected to the laptop so Joe could hear the online students speak
  8. Joe would need to wear a wireless lavalier microphone so the online students will be able to clearly hear Joe talking.

On Mench side:

  1. We would need the email addresses of all the students taking the course online
  2. We would activate all the online students with an account on Mench
  3. We would send all the online students access to our chatbot on Facebook Messenger so they can get notified when classes are coming, assignments are due, and to keep them engaged throughout the program
  4. We would help with the initial set up of the curriculum on Mench (already done -> https://mench.co/PartsAndWarehousing)
  5. We would have to coordinate a time to test the whole set up before the class to make sure everything is working properly

Please let me know if you think I'm missing anything.

@grumo Considering our vision on a niche Bootcamp Marketplace (Like Python) this entire approach seems like off-track. We can discuss this more during our Sprint meeting...
