Suggestion: separate front ends from clients #156

I personally feel that "front end" is being used too loosely in the list. for example none of the twitch things are an actual web front end but just apps or clients. it would be nice if there was a separation between web front end, and alternative clients. I'm always on the search for actual front ends i can self host.

It would be useful to easily separate the operating systems and a Android as well. There are many Android apps. Also Youtube-DL group.

Yeah, the youtube section specifically is kind of a mess. Could separate it into, for instance, 3 sub-sections, which would be:

Web Frontends Apps/Clients Downloaders.

The three classifications by meatspinner are reclassified as follows:

Move to the top of the group

Move to the end:

Websites fall somewhere between desktop and mobile. Also splitting those would require e.g. having multiple twitter groups.

You could just introduce "labels" for platforms, using simple colored tags saying Android/iOS/Web etc. instead of dividing everything into an endless amount of categories...

maboroshin commented 1 year ago

Of course you are welcome to use labels or icons.

But... There are many Android only clients, NewPipe / LibreTube / SkyTube / VueTube / SongTube / HoloPlay / etc. And also many will be Win only. They need to be on one continuum. We have a clutter problem: do you want to see 5 androids after 2 Win, 4 Androids after iOS, Linux, then 3 Win... Would you like to see this?

There is no need for strict rules, but I would like it to be simple and cohesive.
