INTRO

The purpose of this article is to articulate the role of various biofuels in the mod Deus Ex Machina. Biofuels cover a range of different fuels not limited to liquids. In addition to discussing the fuels themselves this article will also cover their synthesis and uses, although in regards to usage coverage will be broad as readers are encouraged to consult plant and engine articles.

I.fuels A.ethanol 1.ethanol is an alcohol based fuel that is derived from sugary and starchy biomass. producing ethanol from cellulose may also be possible. the biomass is mixed with liquids, fermented, and cooked into energy dense alcohol 2.energy density and values: 24.7 kw/gallon 3.ethanol needs about 18.6 lbs of corn or 14 lbs of sugar to make one gallon; takes 35 kw to make 12-20 gallons of ethanol 4.1/3 of a bushel of corn and about 1 kw needed to make a gallon of ethanol (although about 4 kw are used to process and cook the ethanol, holistically speaking)

B.biogas 1.biogas is methane formed from anaerobic digestion. can be made from anything anaerobic bacteria are able to consume, from human and animal waste to crops and other various plant matter. typically 50-75% methane, with the remainder being mostly carbon dioxide and nitrogen with some hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide and oxygen 2.energy density and values: 216 kw/tank 3.biogas needs about one lb of waste to make one cubic foot of gas; requires stable temperature and PH in a certain range 4.biogas can be used in place of natural gas or propane

C.biodiesel 1.biodiesel is a fuel formed from a variety of fats which have been reacted with alcohols. it can be burned directly in a diesel engine 2.energy density and values: 3.37.49 kw/gallon 4.biodiesel can be used in place of diesel
