EMMA >>> BNS: Mary submitted a case for 5651 N. College Ave, (INV19-36368). This structure is in terrible disrepair, the roof has holes in it at the edges (near the gutters). It's occupied but falling apart. I see the investigation was closed, as having no violations. I'm just wondering when a residence is falling apart, are there no remedies for that? You can see the sky through the edges of the roof. I'm just trying to understand what the process is.

Looking at Accela for the property, they've been in and out of court on this house for HH violations since 2003. I'd love to schedule some time to meet with HH officials and ask them about the process of dealing with properties like this, that have been essentially out of compliance for more than 15 years. This seems like an enormous strain on the system, and as if there should be something to do about it by now. At what point does a property get condemned? What remedies are there? Should the neighborhood reach out to the property owners (since they live there) and see what's going on? Are they in need of social services? Is this a mental health issue? A financial issue? Presumably the home is paid off, and they only have property taxes and electric bills, and are not putting anything back into it. This seems problematic, but I'd like to figure out how we can resolve this.

Mary will set up a meeting with Harvey Johnson and other H&H officials he deems relevant to these types of cases.
