@yixianUvA recap: I've developed a solution for generating language tags and devised a method to test it using a test set of epubs with existing language tags. Now, I need to finalize the methodology and implement image alt text generation.

Tasks:

  1. Complete the methodology.
  2. Start implementing image alt text generation.

Remarks: Ensuring the quality of alt text is important but existing WCAG checkers like ACE only verify if alt text is present, not its quality. How can I best validate the quality of alt text? While I aim to use GPT for alt text generation, the API isn't free. Do you know if UvA provides tokens for research purposes? Additionally, could we schedule another meeting next week?

Hi Merijn, Yes, Indeed. Can we schedule a meeting 11:00 a.m. next Wednesday? Regarding to tokens, could you please specify which API are you going to use? I will help me ask the coordinator.

@yixianUvA 11 would be great, thanks! I found out about an AI service that is trained to generate alt text so it could be perfect for my problem. It is called alttext.ai and is available through subscription. I will send you an example usage of it since it works pretty great!

Hi Merijn, I already sent an email to Dewi. But she is out of office until April 22. I will keep you informed when I get the reply.

Thanks for your update. I will take a look at your methodology part. I got a negative response from Dewi. She mentioned that UvA will not cover the paid resources. I am sorry for that.
