A solution that has been thought of is to prompt the user via a small popup on the sidepage when he presses back or when he tries to change the link/close the window if he's ok with 'not saving' the changes.
Once I write in a new name as my nickname, it doesn't matter whether I press Save or Back, the name appears as changed on the platform. Only after refreshing it shows the real saved name.
