@timcharper cherry-picked some commits from master and factored a commit from 19a2d7af1a74538305de57e01d3ef380d21010f6 to have newAppDefinition callable.

please also have a look at https://github.com/mesosphere/marathon/pull/7243, which i already merged. won't do that again without 4 eyes.
