amenity=waste_transfer_station isn't highlighted #21

Hi there. I recently discovered OpenRecycleMap. Really neat imo. I like the style, seems self evident. One thing i've noticed is that ORM doesn't promote 'amenity=waste_transfer_station' which is a critical recycling dropoff point in rural communities.

My apologies if this has already been addressed. Also, it could be a tagging error on the one near me causing it to not show up. (Node: #7762383656)

Hi, thank for you question but for me amenity=waste_transfer_station is not realy for communities ? it's for government or commercial collections on wiki https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dwaste_transfer_station

For recycling in France in rural communities it"s https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:recycling_type%3Dcentre For me, you're node (https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/7762383656#map=19/42.28980/-77.74541) it's an amenity=recycling and recycling_type=centre

Hi Vinber,

Said point near me is referred to as the "Alfred/Almond Waste Transfer Station" and is used by both government entities and is available for public dropoff on certain days.

regardless, I can update the tagging. That makes the most sense to me.

vinber commented 4 years ago

perhaps two POI because one it's for public and other for govnerment with diferents openings hours, phone, perhaps differents entries ... ...

I believe should be tackled within the OSM database itself given that this seems to be something that the tag access=* would solve.

Therefore, this would be a good approach to know if whether amenity=waste_transfer_station (or any other given object) should be included. In particular, if it has an appropriate access value (e.g. yes, customer) or missing then it would be included since this is more of a problem with the OSM database (namely, the lack of granularity of information) than with the ORM itself.

Hello everyone!

Thank you for your interest in the project. Sorry for the long period of inactivity.

Talking about the tags centre and waste_transfer_station...

So far, I do not quite clearly understand what is the difference between them.

Of the obvious differences:

Question: Which of these tags should be supported in the ORM, centre or waste_transfer_station?

recycling_type=centre VS  waste_transfer_station

My take (and the OSM wiki corroborates it) is that amenity=waste_transfer_station is a tag meant to describe places where you can deposit waste in bulk and, at least from where I live, these normally are within the administration of a recycling/waste management facility. This being said, these waste transfer stations are meant to be placeholders, e.g. before screening, storing the waste after screening. There are instances where the general public is able to deposit their residues (recyclable or not) directly instead and others where just the recycling facility may use it.

The combination of the tags amenity=recycling + recycling_type=center are meant to describe places that used only to receive recyclable waste in bulk and directed explicitly to the public (the same way a recycling container is). Again, from where I live, a great example of this would be a end of life car centre.

TL;DR - amenity=recycling is associated with the waste collection process, namely for recycling. amenity=waste_transfer_station is associated with the sorting/recycling process.

Since the waste transfer station lies in a grey area, maybe a different colour could be used to render it?
