The Mastodon webui provides a checkbox to "Crop images in non-expanded posts to 16x9" in the appearance preferences. This is enabled or disabled by default based on instance. Some content e.g nocontexttrek, requires you to see the full image in order to absorb the punchline.
When unticking this checkbox the settings are not carried over to metatext despite the "use preferences from server" toggle being selected.
Describe the solution you'd like
An option in Metatext preferences to disable cropping of images would be great.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Respecting the preferences from server would be an adequate alternative, although it's unclear to me whether preferences from server toggle means the server defaults or the user defined preferences defined for that server.
Additional context
no context is sometimes better as nocontexttrek clearly demonstrates. 🖖🏻
