Switching to NCBI production server #24

Determine timing of switch from using NCBI test server to production server.

Need to determine if we need a per-user login for the use of the production server.

John will send an email to NCBI to clarify some issues here.

Hi Leila,

We are thinking about the switchover to NCBI's production server, and wanted to check something with you. I guess we can call it item #4. (I'm copying to all of us who care about these questions, you are welcome to copy all in your response to all these questions.) For your information, we will be targeting a submission to the production server at the beginning of the year (well, Stanford 'begins' a little late, so maybe as late as 15 January).

#4) One question is about the user logins. Right now all our submissions are under the CEDAR user account, and we assume the same will be true on production.
We are wondering if these submissions will be associated with the original person using CEDAR to submit them, as opposed to the generic CEDAR account. Since we don't have any common sign-on, my understanding is that you would identify the user and user email through fields at the beginning of the submitted metadata (that's how you'll send email to the submitter about the success).

Will you also use that information to connect the submission to that person's NCBI account? Or will it be listed as a CEDAR submission? (I don't know if the submitting user has any special powers in NCBI, but if so, the same question will apply—are the special powers owned by CEDAR, or by the user identified in the metadata?)

Thanks for all your help.

John
