Enable shapes to be added to a map #218

I thought of this after I created a map from topic view and realized I lost all of the circles showing the degrees of relation once I went to the newly created map in mapview.

This made me think that being able to add simple shapes (Circles, rectangles, stars, etc.) can add a lot of meaning to a map.

How hard would it be to add a paint-like pallette to metamaps? Even it if only offered very limited options to begin with...

Would it be hard to add shapes that persist on a map? For example a rectangle that is always spanning (2,3) to (30, 55)... Alt-Clicking would allow editing like a synapse...

I also think this could be a great way to add a visual cue to new elements on a map, without having to create a new topic for this purpose.

take a look at this example, by my friend Marco Quaggiotto, who built knowledge cartography - I definitely think that these should both in the future be able to be user-defined as well as grouped automatically according to weights.

you'll see this and many more things we have planned here in terms of functionality for the maps. these maps are gonna move at some point totally on their own!

another example of adding the organic component to this is Anymails: http://carohorn.de/anymails/

came across this back in 2009 and it's stuck with me ever since. can't wait til we start to get to work on this stuff :-)
