Need to fix the search #439

Open techtrailhead opened 3 years ago

techtrailhead commented 3 years ago

We need a quick fix around the search that we have. @ronaldtse @strogonoff @opoudjis If we need to use Algolia, can you give us access to it so that we can maybe add tags and fix it ourselves? If not Algolia, then what else can be a quick fix to this? The font color needs to be dark enough to be visible and the search should work.

techtrailhead commented 3 years ago

Also, when we click the 'Search' icon, the top headings disappear. So, we need to fix that as well.

Verified that search doesn't work. I went to the Algolia page but wasn't sure how to enable search here. Ping @strogonoff ...

strogonoff commented 3 years ago

@ronaldtse are we sure that API key and index name are as appropriate?[0]

We will probably want to use a different index name for staging site, since content may differ.

@strogonoff Apparently Algolia has moved its DocSearch to a separate service so we need to re-do this. So it's not been working since July 2019... I've re-added our site to DocSearch and let's see when they reply.

@ronaldtse @strogonoff

Is it possible to hide the search icon until we get it to work?

When the user clicks on it the whole top menu disappears and it cannot be fixed without refreshing the page. This is making our landing page look a little bit unprofessional.

Wondering if DocSearch is worth checking out again? If so, we can apply here, if we haven't already done so.

ronaldtse commented 7 months ago

I’d like to add that it never worked. It required lots of configuration and every time we update, we need to do something. If someone can make it work, great. Otherwise, Google search works great enough.

strogonoff commented 7 months ago

@ribose-jeffreylau I appreciate bumping this. The nav-links template override lacked config conditional around Algolia widgets, which precluded them from being hidden if no config is provided. Addressed in 8875dd6.

SOMEONE FIX THIS. The fact that search on metanorma.org is broken is getting in the way of me getting my work done, and it is MOST ASSUREDLY getting in the way of our users finding information. That this has been permitted to be broken for at least three and more likely six years, with noone taking ownership of it, is emblematic of the ongoing lack of seriousness of this project.
