Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce this in my Windows VM, so I'm going to need some more assistance from those of you who have encountered it.
My first question is: if packages\templating\1.1.7\plugin.compileTemplatesBatch.os\npm\node_modules\meteor\ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\meteor\ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\meteor-ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\core-js\es6\object.js
exists, then why doesn't packages\templating\1.1.7\plugin.compileTemplatesBatch.os\npm\node_modules\meteor\ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\meteor\ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\meteor-ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\core-js\modules\es6.object.get-own-property-descriptor.js
? What do you see in the core-js/modules
directory?
By the way, thanks for the stack traces, but you don't need to paste yours here unless it's different from the others in some notable way.
directory.txt I've attached the directory listing of core-js\modules
If you remove the line require('../modules/es6.object.get-own-property-descriptor');
in the object.js file, it will then complain about es6.object.get-own-property-names missing as well.
If you also remove the line require('../modules/es6.object.get-own-property-names');
, you get the following new errors:

It seems that I've managed to get it working by manually deleting folder with blamed package from appdata/meteor/packages and running meteor then for it to download the package again. I needed to repeat this procedure several times until the issue stopped repeating (it blamed ecmascript, standard css minifier, some babel packages).
This is very helpful! After you deleted all the blamed packages and the error stopped, did the error come back again later?
I've got it running again about 30 minutes ago and it's still ok yet. Maybe it's gonna break a bit later
I deleted the templating, ecmascript, and standard-minifier-css packages, which were redownloaded and now I am able to build successfully.
@ras1 That worked perfectly to resolve running the 'Simple-todos' sample App. I'm on Windows 10 x64 and these are the steps I took to resolve as you mentioned.
@adanlozano Is this work on windows 8 x64? when I do as your say until run "meteor", there are nothing happend, what I want to know that what is shown on screen when downloading the missing pkgs? or just nothing show up just wait? Appreciate!
Same thing is happening to me. Deleted the packages people were talking about in here. I don't think my test app was complaining about those, and now I have more errors :\
I just installed Meteor on Windows 10 x64 tonight for the first time. During the installation it hung for a REALLY long time at one point. After deleting those packages and redownloading when creating another test-app, it hung for a REALLY long time at one point. Not sure how to troubleshoot further, but, bummer :\ No longer a productive evening.
Oh, tried the 1.2.1 thing too. Hung indefinitely downloading "meteor-tool@1.1.10"
EDIT: jk, does not hang indefinitely, just took a real long time. I think the 1.2.1 thing will work for now.
+1 Same issue: Windows 10 x64

@benjamn Here is what I did.
meteor --version
I get 1.3meteor create simple-todos
cd simple-todos
npm install
meteor
For example, the path 'C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local.meteor\packages\templating\1.1.7\plugin.compileTemplatesBatch.os\npm\node_modules\meteor\ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\meteor\ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\meteor-ecmascript-runtime\node_modules\core-js\modules/es6.object.get-own-property-descriptor.js' is too long for the NTFS file system used on Windows, so the file doesn't get created. You can't event copy it from another computer because of that.
It is working after I deleted the templating and templating-tools package from %LOCALAPPDATA%\.meteor\packages\
.
@benjamn So it seems like there were some changes to standard-minifier-css 1.0.4, ecmascript 0.4.1, templating 1.1.7, and static-html 1.0.5 but version was never bumped
From @zabudipar
It is working after I deleted the templating and templating-tools package from %LOCALAPPDATA%.meteor\packages.
For my case it wasn't enough, I have deleted ecmascript, fourseven_scss too.
I think the problem can be in long pathes. Windows doesn't allow delete it obviously. I was following by trick on example "fourseven_scss":
mkdir "C:\Users\you user\AppData\Local\.meteor\empty" robocopy "C:\Users\you user\AppData\Local\.meteor\empty" "C:\Users\you user\AppData\Local\.meteor\packages\fourseven_scss" /purge
The problem is a binding of builds like "plugin.compileScssBatch.os.windows.x86_32" I think meteor will check there first and then be broken because version is not match... The same occured for coffe and others "interpreters"... just broken builds...
Thanks for advice, now its working for me in meteor 1.3 in windows 7 (x64 ntfs).
I deleted ecmascript, standard-minifier-css and templating folders in %LOCALAPPDATA%.meteor\packages. All these folders contained items whose names were too long. Deleting with this robocopy trick helped too. And then I run meteor npm install and meteor with no errors.
@benjamn , take a look at @Akryum's comment. He's right, the path is WAY TOO LONG! There is no es6.object.get-own-property-descriptor.js
file in my core-js/modules
folder. Plus, when I try to open es6.object.is.js
which does exist - it shows this:
Which essentially means that os cannot access it. And naturally I cannot copy that file anywhere and so on - so it's virtually non-existant, although shown in explorer.
Btw, this is far from the 1st issue with windows installer\installation - you should run tests on a real windows machine, not VM
Not sure if this will help, but also experienced problems deleting long paths in windows in the past(npm folders are a nightmare), and found out that for windows this npm package was the only way to make deletes properly with any path length rimraf. Not sure if that can be included in the build process.
Using robocopy is also a good approach to delete too long file names: http://superuser.com/questions/45697/how-to-delete-a-file-in-windows-with-a-too-long-filename . But yeah, it still sucks.
to delete folders with too long names, you can simply cut paste them to somewhere else and delete them then. Deleting is a problem, but cutting and pasting isnt.
Even easier is using git bash (windows users obv) and simply rm -rf <path/to/folder>
+1 on the problem btw. Just uninstalled and installed a fresh meteor. I´ve setup a default meteor project through webstorm (v 2016.1) and I run into the same issues
Works by deleting ecmascript, coffeescript, templating, standard-minifier-css and running Meteor again.
There is much easier way to remove all the folders by adding them into archive. Select any folders, call "add to archive", check "remove source files", remove archive
Got it running by deleting templating
, ecmascript
, standard-minifier-css
and running meteor
again. Hopefully it gets patched soon.
Hi @bosung90,
When doing
$ meteor create simple-todos
it used to be simply
and then
$ meteor
but are you saying now we have to do additional step of
before doing meteor to run?
@scheung38 no I am just saying that is the steps I followed. If you look at official meteor start tutorial, they will tell you to execute meteor npm install
which is supposed to be same as npm install
.
@scheung38, seems likely. https://github.com/meteor/meteor/issues/6638
Same issue. Deleting the evil folders solved it.
window 8 x64, only i can do the "meteor" it sow like below: C:\WINDOWS\system32>meteor run: You're not in a Meteor project directory.
To create a new Meteor project:
meteor create
For more help, see 'meteor --help'.

@adanlozano Thanks for the detailed steps! Here is a copy:
simple-todo now up and running :)
.meteor
folder from Users/me/AppData/Local
. I used robocopy to delete that folder here is instruction.templating, ecmascript, standart-minifier-css
from Users/me/AppData/Local/.meteor/packages
After that running meteor app will reinstall those deleted packages and then it'll start normally. Installing atmosphere packages worked for me too.
@jaypanares 's solution worked for me on Win10x64, here's a quick script you can run in an admin command prompt to delete everything quickly:
cd %appdata%
cd ..
cd Local\.meteor\packages
rd /s /q templating
rd /s /q ecmascript
rd /s /q standard-minifier-css
Then just run meteor and let it pull everything down again. Hope that helps!
I'm hoping to put out a quick 1.3.1 release tomorrow (Monday), including a fix for this issue. To make sure it's fixed, can folks try running meteor update --release 1.3.1-rc.3
in the meantime?
_10 Upvotes_ Hello I'm getting this error trying to run meteor on Windows 10 64 bits
