Questions on CAMS emission inventory #66

Closed AlexanderdeMeij closed 4 years ago

Dear @avaldebe @agnesny @gitpeterwind

I've performed several runs with the CAMS-REG-AP_v2.2.1 emission inventory, which you kindly distributed to me in June.

I had a look at the emission totals for the different sectors, and I have some questions for you. For instance:

For Sector 3:

For Sector 5:

I find similar profiles for the GNFR emission inventory.

I hope you can help me with this matter.

Best regards, Alexander

Dear @AlexanderdeMeij

Most of your observations about the CAMS-REG-AP_v2.2.1 emissions for 2015 are correct. I have made overview tables with national totals per GNFR sector based on the original raw data we received from TNO. I send these tables to you in an e-mail.

The sectors you had questions about were 'Sector 3' (C_OtherStationaryComb) and 'Sector 5' (E_Solvents).

When it comes to 'Sector 5' (GNFR sector E_Solvents), there are more countries with non-zero (but very low) emissions than those you are listing. You can find these in the table for E_Solvents. You can also see them when you plot the emissions from our netCDF file if you change the range of values in your plots to a lower maximum. As expected, the only pollutant with significant emissions in this sector is NMVOC. I think the real question here is why those countries where higher amount of non-NMVOC emissions are present in this sector are different to the rest of Europe.

However, I can not answer your questions about specific countries and pollutants since our group has not been involved in the development of this emission inventory, we are just users as yourself. The contact persons for questions about the CAMS-REG-AP emissions are Jeroen Kuenen (jeroen.kuenen@tno.nl) and Hugo Denier Van der Gon (hugo.deniervandergon@tno.nl).
