The calculation of modelled aerosol pH and liquid water content #96

Closed yaoead96 closed 1 year ago

Hello,

I wonder if there are any model output variables that can be used to calculate aerosol pH and liquid water content (e.g., the hydronium ion activity coefficient, the hydronium ion concentration in the aqueous phase considered, or the hydronium ion concentration per volume of air)?

I have found one model output named ‘SURF_PM25water’ with the unit of μg m-3. Does this variable represent the liquid water content in modelled PM2.5?

The detailed model experiment information is listed below. Model version: EMEP4.34 + WRF4.1.1 Domain: Global run with resolution of 1° x 1°. Year: 2015 Emission inventory: ECLIPSE v6a Aerosol Equilibrium scheme: EQSAM4clim Chemical mechanism: EmChem19

Please feel free to contact me should you need any further information. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Yao, I pass this on to @svetlanat for now, but I think the short answer is probably no. Maybe there is something from the EQSAM module you can extract, but acidity is difficult with the setup and outputs we have now.

Just to close this issue, the next version of the EMEP model will indeed have aerosol pH and water; we are working on this now.
