1 year ago I also had this issue but I just figured it out. You are going to have to have the correct firmware for the code you are using. Use this code https://github.com/ScottKekoaShay/dc-metro and be sure to use CircuitPython Version 8.0.4 https://adafruit-circuit-python.s3.amazonaws.com/bin/matrixportal_m4/en_US/adafruit-circuitpython-matrixportal_m4-en_US-8.0.4.uf2

I have gotten the board to the point of the metro loading screen. After editing the config, it shows the flamingo that it has updated, but then it just goes back to the loading screen. Can't get it to show a specific train time.
