Could you send me a link to the source (website, blog etc)?

Generally chessputzer is intended for images from books. But in this case, the issue might be the lack of border or that the image is skewed.

Getting same mixed results, tried with all themes from chess.com

Fonts closed to the ones used in print, will work well. Example (from chess.com): screenshot 8

Similarly default fonts of lichess and followchess are also detected.

Other themes/fonts will not work. To be honest, I don't think it is worthwhile to add them to my training set since 99% of the time you have the pgn on the page anyway.
