Same to. I was fine using Kali 386 but when I switch to x64 is when I started
getting the error.

Using burpsuite_free_v1.6.jar on Kali 1.0.7 (32 bit).
Default java version from kali distro was "1.6.0_31"
Initially I got the Unsupported major.minor version 51.0 error listed above.
Updated Java version to "1.7.0_55" solved the problem for me.

It looks like a Java version upgrade resolves the issue. Oddly the stack trace
doesn't even enter CO2 code so this is some library Burp is/was using.
