Under abnormal nail morphology we currently have only 4 terms. One of these terms, deformed nails", has a very broad definition "atypical shape or size of the nails" which would seem to allow some of its sibling terms, like long toenails, to fall under it. We may want to obsolete this term or possibly merge it with the parent term, abnormal nail morphology.
I would then suggest adding the terms short nails syn - brachyonychia def - decrease in the length of the nails
abnormal nail plate morphology I'm struggling with this definition as the current definition of abnormal nail morphology seems to be exactly what I would use here. In the MA the Nail includes the nail plate, nail bed, and nail matrix. This site http://dermatology.about.com/cs/nailanatomy/a/nailanatomy.htm includes a number of other substructures. Taber's mentions the nail body (same as the nail plate) nail bed, nail root, nail fold and cuticle. The paper I'm working on J:94187 has phenotypes of the nail plate and nail matrix. The nail bed is noted to be normal. I would suggest we at least add terms for the plate, bed and matrix.
