NTR: collateral arteries and arteriogenesis #2135

Open cindyJax opened 8 years ago

fewer collateral arteries in the heart and kidneys

the only collateral artery MP is pulmonary, however, they can exist in many places – these are actually very cool arteries that are normally closed but can open and be used to circumvent a blockage

on the same note, suggest arteriogenesis, which is the development of larger vessels such as arterioles and arteries (see intro in PMID:23897694)

Thanks Alicia

Additional comment from A: There is an MP for "abnormal artery development", but this paper would suggest that arteriogenesis should be moved to the same level as angiogenesis and vasculogenesis

This is opening up a big can of worms. GO has terms for angiogenesis (GO:0001525) , vasculogenesis (GO:0001570) and artery morphogenesis (GO:0048844) as siblings under the term blood vessel morphogenesis (GO:0048514) which is under the parent blood vessel development (GO:0001568). Currently the MP has abnormal artery development (MP:0003410) as a child of abnormal angiogenesis (MP:0000260). The MP does not distinguish between development and morphogenesis. It seems to me we need to review the vascular development terms and reorganize these.
