Per PMID:23555928, adipose tissue noradrenaline (norepinephrine, NE) turnover (NETO) is a neurochemical index of sympathetic activation (drive) in adipose tissue. See https://eprints.lib.hokudai.ac.jp/dspace/bitstream/2115/56895/1/JJVR_62.3%20p.117-127.pdf and https://doi.org/10.1152/ajpregu.00368.2006 for calculation of NETO. Fractional turnover rates of NE are measured based on the rate of decline in tissue NE content after inhibition of catecholamine biosynthesis (with α-methyl-p-tyrosine, AMPT ). AMPT inhibits tyrosine hydroxylase and prevents reaccumulation of NE, which is released in response to neural stimuli. The endogenous organ levels then decline at a rate proportional to the initial NE concentration. When the log of NE is plotted against time, the straight line provides the fractional turnover rate (k).

See also abnormal neurotransmitter turnover #3349, closed. Reopen issue to amend definition: abnormal neurotransmitter turnover MP:0020970 DEF: any anomaly in the process by which neurotransmitters are renewed, frequently measured as a ratio of metabolite(s) of the neurotransmitter to the neurotransmitter itself

abnormal adipose tissue noradrenaline turnover (a child of abnormal neurotransmitter turnover and DEF: any anomaly in the process by which noradrenaline is renewed, frequently measured as a ratio of metabolite(s) of noradrenaline to noradrenaline itself

kicked neurotransmitter turnover out of nervous system placed under homeostasis

sbello commented 2 years ago

We did not have neurotransmitter turnover under neurotransmitter level. should it be or do we not put this term under level?

GO has a few turnover terms "tRNA end turnover" and "peptidoglycan turnover" that are placed under metabolic process. Given that the turnover phenotypes are related to similar processes should this be under metabolism? Or since it is indirect and equivalent to the ratio of levels is it better under homeostasis? For now I've moving this under metabolism as the definition specifies the process by which X is renewed then mentions the measurement.
