Activation Induced Cell Death #779

Closed obophenotype-user closed 9 years ago

Perhaps defects in these pathway need to be listed beneath T and B cell apoptosis. A paper I have now, J:164184 has a mutant in which the B-cells are more susceptible to activation induced cell death. Two reviews that might help. Activation-induced cell death in T cells. PMID: 12752672 and Activation-induced cell death in B lymphocytes. PMID: 11032170. I have spoken with Terry M about GO including this process in its B-cell apoptosis ontology.

There is some debate about whether AICD is strictly an apoptotic event but we will keep it under B cell apoptosis for now. Will let you know when its in the GO. Thanks!

Initial Comment: A type of B cell apoptosis that occurs upon engagement of either the B cell receptor or CD40. Engagement of either receptor, but not both, leads to expression of fas or related receptors that make the B cell susceptible to fas-ligand mediated death. parent term. is_a: GO:0001783 part_of :GO:0001782 : B cell homeostasis synonyms: exact: activation-induced cell death of B lymphocytes exact: activation-induced cell death of B-cells exact: activation-induced cell death of B-lymphocytes broad: activated B cell apoptosis broad: AICD broad: antigen-driven apoptosis see: PMID: 11032170 PMID: 19300454

Now that GO has added the term, I've added this one to the MP:

abnormal activation-induced B cell apoptosis MP:0010669

see also GO:0071948

also added:

abnormal activation-induced cell death of T cells MP:0010670

Do you think we should have increased/decreased terms as well?

I believe the mutant phenotype will often be described as a change, increase or decrease in AICD so those terms would be useful. This article would be increased activation-induced cell death of B cells. I defer to your experience with the Ontology, Is it better to preemptively subdive or retroactively?? Thanks! Jason

Preemptive strikes are much better that a retroactive cleanup. In the meantime, I found a few annotations that can be moved to these new terms anyway.

id: MP:0010674 name: increased activation-induced B cell apoptosis

id: MP:0010675 name: decreased activation-induced B cell apoptosis

id: MP:0010676 name: increased activation-induced cell death of T cells
