The quick search search box appears on almost all MMHCdb pages. It searches the faceted search (aka advanced search) Solr index for a match across these fields: strainName, strainType, agent, agentType, organAffected, authors, tumorClassification, organOrigin, journal, title, abstract, strainMarker, strainGenotype. As a result short search strings bring back matches that might not make much sense. It does not search a number of other things, notably PDX data and documentation. There isn't any explanation of what it does or what to expect from it.

The search parameter is lost after the first search. So results can not be refined after the initial quick search term is used. On DEV I added an extra facet "Quick Search" to fix this. But the facet values are all short words from abstracts: "of", "and", "in", "the" etc. so not very helpful, but does fix the more annoying bug of not being able to refine the search.
