Hello hello -- I see that the plugin is being very minimally maintained, but I'll throw this in anyway, just in case the maintainer gets the time to look into the backlog.
Currently, the plugin will render a citation key that is inside a code block (i.e. surrounded by backticks). E.g.
[`@shohatQuestionJudeoArabic2015`]
is rendered as (Shohat, 2015) instead of being left as-is, which is what I would expect, since it's a code block.
