Started a bit of a narrative. very WIP https://github.com/micahstubbs/voices-of-vr-data/wiki/Narrative

nice work @sirkitree it's good to start making some prototypes we can see ☺

I've also uploaded it to Neos. If you install Neos, go to the content hub and look for VoVRSpace in the New section.

That's great @sirkitree - I just checked it out in Neos VR and I like it

ex1 for an episode layout using 2D assets: neos-layout-ex1

You can also see this in NeosVR: look for Content Hub > VoVRSpace > #704

I did another experiment this evening. I really wanted to listen to Ep #711, but also to work on this. So within Neos I gathered the assets and started a #711 world from the VoVRSpace prototype. I thought I would write down some steps I took with the various assets I saved (similar to what I describe in #8 )

  1. Start new world
  2. Open file browser and import previously saved assets
  3. Start listening to Podcast!
  4. Lay out all assets in circular spare around me.
  5. Create an Outline Text object, equip developer tool, inspect outline and imported text file.
  6. Drill down to text field within text file object, grab it, drop it into text field on Outline Text object.
  7. Do this for each text file imported (descr is long, can leave this as panel too)
  8. Experiment with laying out the various assets as you listen to the podcast.

Check it out in Content Hub > VoVRSpace > #711. (will post image after dinner)

Sorry forgot to come back to it last night. Also now realizing this is episode #712. Anywho - this was more of a layout around me. I don't see this layout being repeated or anything, but I have been reflecting on the experience of creating it, and if allowing people to personalize these sort of places, I suspect that it's really going to be more about the tools you give them to customize the area than it is about any standard layout I might come up with... the notes I took in the sky for instance are just some of the main things I gleaned from listening to the podcast. But other people might be struck by totally different key words and concepts than I was.

20181107195338_1 The green cubes with Monika's picture in them spin, and the image within them spins as well. Built that just playing around with some of Neos' components, then duplicated and placed around the images

20181107195351_1 The cover art I played with just duplicating and spacing out around myself like walls a bit. The text description I placed under the transparent floor at a larger size that I could read at leisure, or as my mind wandered (at times).

20181107195359_1 The notes I took as I listened and then placed them up into the sky around the images. 20181107195406_1 20181107195415_1 20181107195421_1

Brilliant idea! That looks really cool - I look forward to seeing it in Neos VR. I just listened to that episode today.

Did another experiment today and re-listened to episode #689, which is one that really blew my mind.

I took a similar approach in that I gathered the assets ahead of going into VR. I then opened up Neos, went to the VoVR world, and started a new world called #689. I then imported the assets, started listening to the podcast, converted the text objects into a more readable form, and then simply took notes and drew some doodles while I listened.

Again, this was pretty fun to do, and combined with mind blowing concepts, it felt surreal leaving when it was over. Here's a 360 image I took of what I created, but I'd encourage you to put on a headset and go find it in Neos > Content Hub > New submissions > VoVR > #689 689

Listen to the podcast. Use the brush and take some of your own notes. Take a picture and share.
