Solar Panels show wrong status during the nighttime #2890

Both Basic and Advanced Solar Panels show wrong status during the nighttime. At least 3/4th of the units in a solar array will show "Collecting Energy" and their energy meters are frozen after the 1st sunset, whilst they are not producing energy actually.

After the next sunrise, some units will show "Unknown" and others "Sunlight Blocked".

Affects: Minecraft 1.7.10, in Mars and Moon dims. I'll be testing the other versions, esp.: 1.11.2.

Details

I built several 4x1 solar arrays aligned with North-South axis. After the sunset, some panels will be still showing "Collecting Energy" even if they ceased to produce energy (you can tell it by the batteries).

Note: To replicate this, you must not use /time (because of #2877) or the Cryogenic Chamber. The daylight cycle must flow normally.

I haven't figured out the pattern yet. Sometimes the innermost or the outmost panel in some 4x1 array will show the wrong status. In others, all of 4 panels will show "Collecting Energy". And in others, all 4 will show "Sun not visible". It seems the pattern depends on the position of the battery or if the panel is on East or West side of the collecting cable.

Even single solar panels are prone to show wrong status.

Does this happen in all dims, GC dims, or just mars?

EzerArch commented 7 years ago

Just tested on the Moon: yes, this does happen there too. As to the Asteroids, kind of irrelevant since this dimension doesn't have daylight cycle.

I'm seeing this in the 1.10.2 version as well.

I am in Single player mode, BTW.
