In Super Sonic's story, when you go to the Mystic Ruins Past with the emerald shrine on fire, the palette is interpolated between two different palettes to simulate light changes. Since this is done within a single lantern file--unlike Sky Deck (see #8) which uses cross-file palettes--it should be rather simple to implement. It can be accomplished with a simple lerp.
