Finder presents an error:

If I continue, the resulting file has a 
._ counterpart and 
both parts of the file are zero bytes, for example: 

[macbookpro03:/Volumes/UoS-ITS-ndrive-FTP/My Documents] gjp22% ls -al
total 2
-rwxrwxrwx    1 gjp22    wheel           0 Jun  8  2007 ._StarFont test.odt
-rwxrwxrwx    1 gjp22    wheel         610 Jul 26  2006 Mozilla Firefox.lnk
drwxrwxrwx    1 gjp22    wheel         512 Mar 21 13:59 My Music
-rwxrwxrwx    1 gjp22    wheel           0 Jun  8  2007 StarFont test.odt

The same is true for a .txt file with no resource fork. 

I'm taking the unusual step of treating this issue as invalid at time of 
reporting, because there 
are known issues with FTP and SFTP service at ndrive.uscs.susx.ac.uk
