1) MacFusion alongside read-only approaches such as Disk Utility
----------------------------------------------------------------
Q: If I use Apple Disk Utility to unmount, then re-mount an NTFS volume that is
usually mounted by MacFusion
with write privileges, will Disk Utility mount the volume read-only?

2) MacFusion alongside Parallels Desktop for Mac
------------------------------------------------
Q: If an NTFS volume is first mounted with write privileges by MacFusion, can
Parallels Desktop for Mac later
gracefully take control of that volume for use by Microsoft Windows within a
virtual machine?

Caution
-------
For any volume that is used by an OS running within a virtual machine,
excercise caution if attempting to
mount or write to that volume from beyond the virtual machine.
Already at <http://www.macwindows.com/#050407a>
(probably not a permalink) on 4th May we see:

Do we share that writer's confidence that everything is fine in a read+write
environment?
If I'm not mistaken, earlier builds of Parallels were not always graceful when
wrestling control of physical CDs/
DVDs from Finder/Mac OS. That was read-only media.
The notion of two operating systems contending for write access to a single
filing system sets alarm bells
ringing.
(No mention of MacFusion in that article, but who knows what the buzz will lead
to, or how long it will be
before someone offers an NTFS-oriented plug-in...)
Perhaps I'm being unnecessarily cautious? I will of course be delighted if
indeed it is all compatible, but I
currently lack the resources to reproduce and test that environment.

Extending the thoughts above to other non-existent plug-ins
-----------------------------------------------------------
Should we find ourselves with plug-ins for
Ext2fs
ext3
Reiser
and so on, then similar issues may arise.
iPartition Demo | Partition menu | New | Type:
reveals a long list of partition types
(not necessarily supported) and iPartition Help suggests:
> Future releases are likely to add support for MS-DOS and
> Linux Ext2FS...
Let's be prepared for the future :)

Summary
-------
As buzz increases around MacFUSE etc., be prepared for questions/issues that
may not properly relate to
MacFusion.
Bear in mind, MacFusion will often be pleasantly transparent ... people will be
using it without realising that
they're doing so.
Unexpected uses might = unexpected issues.
Unexpected combinations of MacFusion with other applications/VMs that are
unknown to us might = more
unexpected issues.
(Am I being over-cautious?)
Ideally, predict/prepare for such questions/issues.
Have PROMINENT cautions, and answers to FAQ, to avoid any flack that may arise
from accidental misuse of
applications/VMs.
Such answers/cautions above might equally be expressed by developers of
Parallels (and other VM
environments) but it should be nice for us to educate and sweeten users of
MacFusion :)
