I am waiting to see if the recent changes fix this.
This problem has improved
The problem still exists to some extent. For example, while the following results produce in op-ed on the same topic (the Israel Palestine conflict) the op-ed is on the border fence while the article is on governments moving embassies to Jerusalem.

The following article though produces an output that is relevant because it has both "Pompeo" and "Iran" to work with

However when presented with this headline "Trump plans to declare that Iran nuclear deal is not in the national interest" the system would not necessarily find "It's not the Iran deal that's at risk. It's American credibility." (This might score a three if "deal" is identified)
Improvements:
No editorials have been found recently. I have no hard numbers but I suspect they score too low
