BTstack will not load

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Select BTstack keyboard app (Apple BT off)
2.Tries to open BTstack - pinwheels for ever - alternative BTstack will not load
3.Cannot exit cleanly and cannot re-eneable Apple BT without hard boot

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect keyboard selector but simply get BTstack start-up pinwheel

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
iOS 4.01, iPhone 3G, BTstack keyboard 1.0 - 25570, ultrasnow 1.2.4 - this is a 
recent upgrade but everything else works OK

Please provide any additional information below.
removed & reinstalled - cannot go back a version as cannot find resource

I can confirm under these circumstances: go to the BTStack settings in the 
Preferences dialog and you will see the current BlueTooth driver selected is 
"None"; selecting either BTStack or iOS causes the selection to get a spinning 
wheel that doesn't resolve after several minutes.  Before I installed BTStack, 
I could send AD2P messages to my car and answer and dial and transfer phone 
numbers between my car and my phone.  Since installing BTStack, my car (a 100% 
Electric, Nissan LEAF) doesn't see my phone at all.  After uninstalling the 
BTStack software, even the iOS Bluetooth profile can't be loaded and my car 
still can't see my phone.  This worked before your software, and I'd forsake 
said software if I could just get the original BlueTooth functionality back, 
but the uninstall makes this impossible!  HELP!!

I'll release a new version of the BTstack package in the next days. However, I 
don't think that will solve any of your problems. 

@spida: please check /var/log/syslog for hints on what's going on. (install 
"syslogd to /var/log/syslogd" and reboot if you don't have that already 
installed)

@timehorse: in your email you wrote that your Wifi is broken. If that's the 
case, I'd expect that Bluetooth is broken too, both are handled by the same 
chip and use the same RF antenna for sending on the 2.4 Ghz band. I'd suggest 
to reinstall iOS and check Wifi and Bluetooth before Jailbreaking.

Thanks for checking on this Matthias,

My phone's WiFi died from overheating while using TomTom since the mount was 
getting far too much direct sunlight.  The BlueTooth was working perfectly 
every morning since I got my car until the day I installed one of the A.D. 
emulators which forced me to install BTStack.  I can't switch back to the iOS 
stack in the UI and because it defaults to None uninstalling seems to leave it 
at none with the iOS disabled.  Also, I had a repair shop check my WiFi antenna 
and the one in my phone is a new one; the WiFi will work if I put the phone in 
the freezer for a while; typically for about an hour after I remove it from the 
freezer.  But I know a factory restore would bring my BlueTooth back, so it 
must be software.  I'm proficient with unix and would be happy to ssh into the 
local host and try any commands you might suggest to further determine what may 
be the issue.  Thanks again and any help will be greatly appreciated.  I'm sure 
BTStack is better than the iOS stack and would prefer to use yours if possible, 
but I would at the moment like to be able to communicate with my car but keep 
my PDANet for which I have a valid license.

Anyway, listen, I just wanna say you are a very skilled programmer and I 
appreciate your effort.  If you can help me with this, I'd be eternally 
grateful.  Thanks!

@timehorse: well, please go ahead and restore, test Bluetooth, and then 
jailbreak again. I see no reason why BTstack prevents iOS Bluetooth Stack to 
work (at least not after a full reboot).

It took me days to arrange my icons in all the right folders the last time I 
restored since backup never seems to get that straight.  All in all, restoring 
and rejailbreaking would be like pulling teeth for me since about 3 weeks ago 
my jailbreak on 4.1 failed to get out of boot so I factory restored to 4.2.1 
and then after seeing everything working fine (except the wifi outside of the 
fridge) and verifying the blue tooth had no issues, I jailbroke since I love 
PDANet and having custom backgrounds and boot logos.  Then I spent days with 
Cydia trying to recover apps since Cydia loves to crash and take down 
springboard on this phone.  So, if you want me to go through that torture again 
just to prove that BlueTooth is perfectly functioning from a hardware point of 
view I will do that but I said before, I ssh into my phone regularly and can 
run any test procedure you can devise.  I know Tab+ broke Safari but even 
loosing the primary web browser isn't worth the torture of restore, rearrange 
icons, find the elusive version of redsn0w that supports iPhone 3G running 
4.2.1 (since they stopped supporting 3G in recent versions) and then suffer the 
tortured loading and reloading of Cydia.  But if it will get my BlueTooth back, 
I will consider it.  But please be very sure of your reasoning, sir, because if 
I restore my phone, bluetooth comes back and then install Genesis A.D. and am 
forced therefore to install BTStack and this irrecoverably breaks my BlueTooth 
again, rest assured, I shall be a lot less sanguine during our next encounter.

So, that said, are you *absolutely* *sure* there isn't some log file or other 
testing application I can run on my phone to debug this issue?  I've rebooted 
numerous times and still the BTStack setting in Preferences defaults to "None" 
and can't be switched.  I know BlueTooth is working from a hardware perspective 
since just last week I was making calls from my car using the BlueTooth 
interface and was able to play Pandora through the speakers when I bought the 
car on 2 November.  It's a software issue, of that I'm 100% sure.  I write 
software for a living and although I've not written software for the ARM 
processor (save some iPhone apps), iOS is pretty much just BSD and that I can 
handle.  So, is your solution still to restore?

Ok, before restore, I suggest to just deinstall BTstack and reboot. 
De-installing BTstack removes all traces by it, and then you're left to the 
mercy of iOS :)

To deinstall, either run dpkg from the command line (check command line args), 
the package name is ch.ringwald.btstack, or enable developer role in 
Cydia->Manage->Edit, and remove it there. Then reboot, and good luck.
