Feature Request: Make the icons in dock behave like the icons in macOS dock #357

Please make the icons in panel behave like macOS panel. Like if you hover on icon they will zoom in. On clicking they will jump for a little. Please see the behavior in macOS. Same thing is available in plank dock also.

Dash to panel implemented something similar in a recent pull request #1153. Maybe we can borrow some of the code with proper credits?

Any updates?

@micheleg This is still definitely a feature many people would like, so it would be great if it could be implemented at some point. I would assume the zoom behavior is pretty similar across dash to panel and dash to dock, so hopefully that implementation could help.

Latte Dock for KDE has the feature by the way.

The micheleg already said don't want implement this, I think the creator of this issue did a mess comparing with macOS, many linux users don't like even the microsoft, and even more the apple, lol. Zoom in icon isn't just to be visible, is a question of feedback when moving the mouse, the apple didn't implemented that animation just because is cool or anything, and we are here because of that as well.

I totally agree, It is great visual feedback to select a program.

I came here to give some love and support for this feature. Not because it is fanciful, but because it really aids in productivity. I believe it will have a significant boost to Dock's productivity.

+1 to add this. IT also helps to better identify the currently selected icon when using smaller sizes.

I've been using Dash to dock over the last 5 years and found myself very happy with it ... and I do understand michele being reluctant on spending time to implement such an option, maybe he will never maybe he will one day ...

After reading this thread I was curious to understand if there are alternatives ... and apparently there is, I installed Dash to panel and customized it so that it keeps the original Gnome top panel (by default favourite app icons integrate in it but I don't like it) and shows the dash with favourite icons at the bottom; there are plenty of style options with in particular "Animate hovering app icons" that implements the magnify effect (simple, ripple or plank).
