micheleg / dash-to-dock

A dock for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash out of the overview transforming it in a dock for an easier launching of applications and a faster switching between windows and desktops.

Very often dramatically slows shell in its animations on Fedora to 64 bit true I do not have a great graphics card but can improve??

I find the extension really comfortable and I would really dislike disabilitarla...ma in fact disabled animations are always clear without any slowdown!!!!

Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics driver: i915 Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Mars LE [Radeon HD 8530M / R5 M240] driver: radeon

x11 server: Fedora Project X.org 1.20.3 driver: radeon

Mesa DRI Intel Haswell Mobile v: 4.5 Mesa 18.2.8

Hi,

Can you confirm the shel is usable without the extension? What in particular is slowed down? The overview animations, or even the general use?

i don't know how to takle this specifically unfoertunately. What i can say is to give a try to the new version when gnome 3.32 will be released, as there have been a number of small preformance impovements in gnome-shell as well as this extension (https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/commit/0d717c27d2b709d9710bcb7a71e079324fb048dc). I don't expect it will be dramatically better.

You can get the ltest extensoin version (v65) already from here https://micheleg.github.io/dash-to-dock/releases.html

The animations slows down, it seems a little better on btrfs

My graphics card is a bit obsolete and on fedora I only have Mesa drivers available, but on an SSD !!!

I can confirm that popping up a video with gst-play by example is dramatically slow (1-2s to finish display) with dash-to-dock and absolutely normal without.
