micheleg / dash-to-dock

A dock for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash out of the overview transforming it in a dock for an easier launching of applications and a faster switching between windows and desktops.

same here on 19.04 does not work

Programie commented 5 years ago

I've a similar issue: I've installed Dash to Dock using the package manager (sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock) and it works, but it only shows the "Show applications" icon.

jackbillstrom commented 5 years ago

Just upgraded from 18.04.3 to 19.04, only thing that I could see on the dock was the same as for @Programie.

I did remove however and reinstall dash-to-dock via the https://extensions.gnome.org/local/, and purged another broken addon ("Desktop Icons").

sudo apt-get remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

...which might be kind of irrelevant but after the commands below, I did get dash-to-dock to work.

First combo: Alt+F2 Second combo: r

@jackbillstrom your solution works for me!

I've uninstalled the gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock package and reinstalled it from here: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/307/dash-to-dock/

Now the dock has all expected icons. Many thanks!!!

dgutov commented 5 years ago

I had to remove the -ubuntu-dock extension as well.

andrea-ligios commented 5 years ago

I've made it work as follows:

  1. Disabled the extensions without uninstalling anything as described here (actually removing them also removes ubuntu-desktop, which we'll need to reinstall later, etc... this way instead is 100% safe, if something's wrong we rollback by renaming the folder to its previous value):
cd /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
sudo mv ubuntu-dock@ubuntu.com{,.bak}
sudo mv desktop-icons@csoriano{,.bak}
  1. Reloaded Gnome Shell with ALT+F2 then R

  2. Browsed to https://extensions.gnome.org/local/

  3. Removed the Desktop-Icons extension (it was still there...) with the red X button

  4. Installed Dash to dock from https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/307/dash-to-dock/

  5. Configured it through Gnome Tweaks -> Extensions -> Settings icon

Just in case someone is stuck... HTH

@Gourav-raj

If you have this Addon in your browser, you can thereafter visit https://extensions.gnome.org/local/
