This is what's in the proposal about this milestone: Support for metadata enrichment and enhancement We will take the proof-of-concept metadata enrichment routine developed in the Pilot (see Standards for FAIR Multi-omics Data), and integrate this into the NMDC Submission Portal to support streamlining metadata input and augmentation (Submission Portal, Milestone 3.3). Streamlining this work will reduce barriers for the scientific community to engage and use this resource, increasing the potential data we will receive from individual submissions. These methods will support features such as auto-suggesting values for various fields based on minimal information entered (e.g., using the geolocation field to suggest environment values or mining the study abstract to suggest terms). Measurements is an area where historical metadata has been poorly captured {Hanisch, 2022 #474}, and plan to make use of the quantulum package to suggest corrections for incorrectly entered quantity data. This will also be used to implement a method to measure and score the quality of metadata that has been provided. These features will be available both on a sample-by-sample basis during submission and also as part of a general QC dashboard (Submission Portal, Milestone 3.4).

Alicia: We need to have a scoring of how good metadata is for this.
Chris: Be able to query Mongo and see how many different MIXS fields are there and should be part of the regular portal activity in the future.
Planning meeting decision: Mark as rescheduled and have a squad to determine what this would entail. Need to figure out the dependencies to make this happen.
Break into 2 squads, one for the squad to scope and design and then another for deployment. Two quarters, one for planning and one for implementation.
Deploy Q1 of 2025, work needs to start sooner.

We should revisit what else we want to do in FY25 Q1 and see if this is still a priority. If it is we can set up user research this quarter, cc @jkelliher-github @ljohnson09

Decided at meeting today with Emiley and Alicia that we will not focus on this milestone since it's not the highest priority for our users.
