Milestone - Support for new data types (4.2) #515

Integrating new microbiome data types Through discussions with users, we learned that there is a desire for the NMDC to house new data types, specifically data types that do not fit well in existing primary repositories. The NMDC will engage with users directly to prioritize the inclusion of new data types (Milestone 2.5), which will be available through the Data Portal (Data Portal, Milestone 4.2).

taking a field picture? reschedule to FY25Q3. Pointers to images. This at a minimum won't be done this quarter with the schema soft freeze. We need to define what the new data type is and what 'house' means. genomad output? This would likely get added in FY25 Q1 after getting updates from Marcel. user research with the BRCs. Would expect to hear amplicon data. Julia will look at past rounds of user research.

@emileyfadrosh I'm rescheduling this to 2025Q3 but won't update the x on the milestones document until we write up the report explaining why it's postponed.
