I haven't tested the NMDC Sample Metadata Template parser on these plant associated slots yet

Yes, that would be very helpful. How much of a drag is that for you? I have also been thinking of looking through the BioSample databases that the BBOP team maintains. Maybe I can some plant associated samples that would be especially useful for testing out other features of the template parsing.
