dissolve principal investigator role? #458

Around September 9th, @elishawc, I and others met to discuss dataset attribution in NMDC, KBase, ESS-Dive, etc.

There was some discussion about removing "principal investigator" as a credit role. The sentiment was that it could be used as an honorific rather than saying what the person did.

In many cases, the following two roles might be appropriate:

I found one of the original papers that analyzed PLoS publications for CRediT contributions. They actually report that most authors contribute to the "conceptualization" and they attribute PIs with ...

The main distinction is a task or contribution vs. a label for an individual (PI, grad student, postdoc).
