Design for portal landing pages #394

Closed ssarrafan closed 3 years ago

Requirements and feedback discussed in May, this issue is to work on the design and mock-ups incorporating the discussion and feedback.

Relates to https://github.com/microbiomedata/nmdc-server/issues/342 from May

@elishawc @pvangay

I have the following questions regarding study landing page based on our discussion:

  1. Do we have an example funding information that will be retrieved from the metadata schema to display. e.g Name, ROR, Proposal DOI etc. And can a study have multiple funding agencies.
  2. Could you share example(s) of graphic/figure for visual representation of study, and its purpose. and would those be retrieved from the metadata schema as well?
  3. Do we want to keep the following attributes on the page: Data ID, Scientific Objectives, Sample Count, Multiomics. Also are there any other attributes that we want to pull from the metadata schema and display on the page (in addition to location/georeference, date and sample-type)?
  4. Elisha you also mentioned a higher level overarching project landing page that will have some additional information. Could you elaborate that a little?

Please let me know if any of my questions need more clarity.

  1. @dehays will have to help here re: schema example and if projects >1 funding agency (I assume yes as FICUS are both JGI and EMSL?)
  2. Example graphics could be images from a publication (infographic or data graph), or sampling trip (camera photo), or a map showing sites where sampling occurred, etc.
  3. That should prob be a team level conversation (@ssarrafan - maybe tech sync?), as I am not sure if other have expectations for those terms.
  4. Each study landing page represents a particular research project/proposal, but it could be part of a long-term project that has an overarching goal or science Q. For examples, WHONDRS could have many studies w/in NMDC, each w/ their own study page, but would need a page that provides broader context on the overarching mission of the larger project, with links to each study page that is part of it.

@elishawc @pvangay @mar-rudolph @emileyfadrosh @ssarrafan

Here is the (updated) Figma mockup.

Please share if there are any changes / suggestions. comments can also be added directly anywhere on the mockups. Using 💬 icon on the top left corner in Figma. (to add comments you will need to sign-up on Figma (for the free account)) Let me know when we have some more directions on the 'metadata attribute' section.

Also the mockups can be exported as images by selecting the frame name ('NMDC Study page') and use export options from right side panel.

Let me know if there are any questions

@faiza-a - this looks great!

We might want to rethink the ? near team, as that might want to link out to an external project website, and put reference to CRediT somewhere else. For example we prob should add it to the lead PI name and could put a link to more information in that instance?

Otherwise, I think it is prob ready for feedback during a tech sync (@ssarrafan ?)

ssarrafan commented 3 years ago

I've added it as an agenda item for next week's NMDC Sync. @faiza-a can you make it on 6/30/21 at 2 pm (PST)?

@kfagnan

@ssarrafan Yes I can

ssarrafan commented 3 years ago

@ssarrafan Yes I can

Great! @faiza-a how much time would you like for this at the meeting? Would 20 or 30 minutes be enough?

faiza-a commented 3 years ago

@ssarrafan Yes 20 mins should be enough. @elishawc Thanks for the review. I moved the reference to CRediT to the PI name. Let me know if you want any other changes.

@faiza-a, @elishawc @pvangay is it ok to close this issue today for the end of the sprint? I know there may be additional ongoing refinements and updates but for the most part can we consider the design done?

elishawc commented 3 years ago

I believe so - let's see how Tech sync goes before you officially close.

@faiza-a presented at the Tech Sync today. Designs may require some additional updates or iterations but mostly design phase is done. Thank you @faiza-a. Looks great!
