Record actual controller data to be replayed later for faster iteration (without using mouse/keyboard simulation) #10034

Hi,

I'm looking to quickly iterate on some gestures with Oculus controlles. The gestures can change quickly and it'd be ideal to be able to record actual controlers for later replay.

I know I can use simulation service to record SimulatedHand that's driven by mouse and keyboard althought that's not easiest to use and by far using actual controler to perform action is quickest.

Is there a way I can record actual controlers? I've already looked into InputSimulationService althought I can't see fairly straight forward way to get adjust HandData to reflect what controllers are doing. I'd also like to avoid implementing custom DataProvider if at all possible.

I couldn't find anything similar, but perhaps I've just missed it and someone has already solved that?

Thanks, Chris

@handzlikchris, Thanks for the suggestion! We will take a look and post here if there are current solutions that may help.

We have improved input recording/replay as a work item in our backlog, will be tracking this one as well under that larger umbrella.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for reporting this issue.

Microsoft Mixed Reality Toolkit version 2 (MRTK2) is currently in limited support. This means that Microsoft is only fixing high priority security issues. Unfortunately, this issue does not meet the necessary priority and will be closed. If you strongly feel that this issue deserves more attention, please open a new issue and explain why it is important.

Microsoft recommends that all new HoloLens 2 Unity applications use MRTK3 instead of MRTK2.

Please note that MRTK3 was released in August 2023. It features an all-new architecture for developing rich mixed reality experiences and has a minimum requirement of Unity 2021.3 LTS. For more information about MRTK3, please visit https://www.mixedrealitytoolkit.org.

Thank you for your continued support of the Mixed Reality Toolkit!
