System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException on long file paths #10279

This method https://github.com/microsoft/MixedRealityToolkit-Unity/blob/83b9e5763a2a501d419bd722b0c0253fa9b93ba8/Assets/MRTK/StandardAssets/EditorUtilities/OnLoadUtilities.cs#L139

in MRTK/StandardAssets/EditorUtilities searches the whole Unity project and its packages. It fails when it encounters a too long file path.

I got a "System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path" in my project from this line:

https://github.com/microsoft/MixedRealityToolkit-Unity/blob/83b9e5763a2a501d419bd722b0c0253fa9b93ba8/Assets/MRTK/StandardAssets/EditorUtilities/OnLoadUtilities.cs#L152

"Could not find a part of the path" is not quite correct as the path exists, but it is just too long and cannot be red properly. I know that the encountered path is too long. It has 240 characters. I could resolve a similar issue with handling this file path before by replacing Directory.Delete() with Unity's FileUtil.DeleteFileOrDirectory() in my own code.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for reporting this issue.

Microsoft Mixed Reality Toolkit version 2 (MRTK2) is currently in limited support. This means that Microsoft is only fixing high priority security issues. Unfortunately, this issue does not meet the necessary priority and will be closed. If you strongly feel that this issue deserves more attention, please open a new issue and explain why it is important.

Microsoft recommends that all new HoloLens 2 Unity applications use MRTK3 instead of MRTK2.

Please note that MRTK3 was released in August 2023. It features an all new architecture for developing rich mixed reality experiences and has a minimum requirement of Unity 2021.3 LTS. For more information about MRTK3, please visithttps://www.mixedrealitytoolkit.org.

Thank you for your continued support of the Mixed Reality Toolkit!
