It would be really cool, if we got something like LightShot in PowerToys.

@Fl1pNatic Have you ever tried out snip and sketch which is built into Windows 10? If yes what exactly do you miss there?

Well, you have to actually take a screenshot and then click on the notification before being able to edit. Also unlike LightShot, you can't change the size of the screenshot after you've already taken it. A faster and more convenient system should be made.

@Fl1pNatic Yeah I understand. But do you understand that it would be dumb to create another screenshot tool. I would recommend you to file your suggestions in the Windows Feedback Hub. Open Feedback Hub: https://aka.ms/feedbackhub

I know a new screenshot tool is rather dumb to create. But would it be an option for PowerTools to hook into Snip & Sketch and open my favorite image-editor after creating a screenshot.

Snip & Sketch kinda s*cks: After pressing 'print screen' and creating a cut-out, it just closes and gives no option to save it as a file, the screenshot is only available on the clipboard, which requires me to open my image-editor manually.

(The Microsoft Feedback Hub requires me to downgrade my privacy setting which I cannot do, due to government recommended GPO's.)

Aaron-Junker commented 3 years ago

@crutkas I think something like this should be possible. Am I right?

crutkas commented 3 years ago

so @fl1pnatic and @thargol1 you're both asking for the same thing, snip then have a default preferred app launch. Correct?

This does copy to your clipboard, fyi.

For me the Snip n Sketch app can open a window. I agree its not easy if you have to go via the Action center, but not impossible?

@Fl1pNatic Do you mean sth like the CTRL+WIN+S shortcut? In my oppinion Microsoft has implemented a very nice feature into windows with this one. Maybe that would be a solution!? Because this feature is already there.

I am talking about Ctrl + Win + S, but it's not that good. Read comments above to understand.

crutkas commented 3 years ago

My read on this is you want a full screen then be allowed to crop it.

We wouldn't recreate the snipping tool so yes, feedback hub would currently be the right way for this feedback.

If lightshot works, you should support those developers. Seems like sweet tool

It seems to me that supporting Russian business as a tax sponsor of the Russian regime is not something that could be openly recommended without reputational losses:

Warning: The Lightshot app generates URLs that are easy to guess or scrape, making it alarmingly easy for anyone to view grabs of private messages or intimate photos. Bundleware: Offers to install Russian software Yandex Alisa, Yandex Browser and other products from Yandex company.
