Adjust Image Resizer string to remove translation clarity issue #16790

Open KiwiMonster364 opened 2 years ago

KiwiMonster364 commented 2 years ago

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.56.1

Utility with translation issue

Image Resizer

🌐 Language affected

German

❌ Actual phrase(s)

image

"Passt in [resolution] pixel"

✔️ Expected phrase(s)

Only the resolution.

Format: "[width] x [height] [unit]" e. g.: 1920 x 1080 Pixel (no the capital letter at the beginning of the word "Pixel" is not a spelling mistake)

CRUTKAS possible solution: Mode - Width x Height unit

ℹ Why is the current translation wrong

Sounds wrong in my ears. It sounds better when you simply put the new resolution of the new picture there

crutkas commented 2 years ago

You have different modes for resizing, that is why they are there. Fit, fill, stretch

Still the current translation sounds weird although I also understand your point

crutkas commented 2 years ago

What would be a better way then? Simple as shifting the "in" to be a dash?

Mode - Width x Height unit

Yes just like that, if possible the mode should be a infinitive instead of a participle like it is now

I think the words "Fits inside" would be even better. This setting creates a "maximum" frame that the image has to fit inside of, whatever the width/height ratio of that image is. In Dutch, the full sentences do make sense.

crutkas commented 2 years ago

@jay-o-way I would suggest that being a different scope. I think the pattern solves the problem
