FancyZones windows going over the screen area #17697

Open cocavi opened 2 years ago

cocavi commented 2 years ago

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.57.0

Running as admin

Area(s) with issue?

FancyZones

Steps to reproduce

Every morning when I start my computer, I start dragging my windows to the set spaces, and the window I put on the far right, goes longer than the screen area, so if I scroll all the way down I don't see the end of the page. I have to either manually move the screen down and resize it, or I have to open PowerToys, then open FancyZones and then launch the layout editor and after that, I drag the window over that area again and it gets set the right way.

✔️ Expected Behavior

For the window I drag to the zones to stay within the screen area

❌ Actual Behavior

the windows I drag go pass the edges of the zones, going under the taskbar resulting in me not being able to see the end of the page.

Other Software

Are you using Grid or Canvas style layout? A screenshot would be nice. There were some issues with Canvas layouts and screen scaling that were fixed very recently. Also: might want to update to v0.57.2. If that doesn't work, try deleting the layout and create a new one.

Hi Jay,

I am using a custom layout that I designed. I am sorry if I don’t have all the answers. I just started using this program a couple of weeks ago.

I am attaching 2 pictures. One of the layout I use and the second one showing where the window is longer than the length of the screen vertically.

/bugreport will be useful here

cocavi commented 2 years ago

On what page will I find this tray icon? Can you please share the link? I do not see it on this screen.

cocavi commented 2 years ago

I am attaching a screen shot of my screen, I do not have that bar. Also I am getting this message every day I turn my computer on, could this be part of the problem?

jaimecbernardo commented 2 years ago

I think the Window from that screenshot got fixed on 0.57.2 so please update. What do you mean you do not have that bar? What version of Windows are you running? Where's the clock located in your screen? image

cocavi commented 2 years ago

Sorry Jaime, I am a mac user, and use this Dell only for work, so I am not used to windows. Yes now with that picture you sent me I found it. I am waiting for my IT guy to do the update since I need admin log in to do any updates. If the issue continues after I do the update I will report the bug and upload pictures to the zip file. Were you able to look at the picture I sent about the message I get every time I open my computer? Will this be fixed with the update too?

By the way @cocavi, when you answer via e-mail, ataachments are not passed to this issue/comment. You tried to send screenshots of your zones, but we can't see those yet. If you would like to open this issue via a browser, edit the comment and upload the pictures there, that's be nice.

jaimecbernardo commented 2 years ago

The "Fail to initialize plugins" message is the issue that's fixed by updating. For your FancyZones issue we still need to investigate. /needinfo

cocavi commented 2 years ago

@jaimecbernardo here is a screen shot of how the bottom of the window looks image

This gets fixed if I open PowerToys, then open FancyZones, open the Launch Layout Editor, and then close it, and then I will grab the screen and press shift and drop it on the same zone, it will correct the length of the window.

jaimecbernardo commented 2 years ago

From your screenshot: image

If you press that up arrow, you see a PowerToys icon, right? That's where you can generate the /bugreport from

Here is another example of what happens with the windows when I use fancy zones. Before it used to happen only on the right zone, now it's also happening on the middle one. The window goes past the taskbar. image

Jay-o-Way commented 2 years ago

@cocavi Did you try to delete and re-create the layout?

cocavi commented 2 years ago

@Jay-o-Way I did now that you suggested it. I will test it tomorrow morning and update you

cocavi commented 2 years ago

@Jay-o-Way deleting and re-creating the layout did not fix the problem.

cocavi commented 2 years ago

Hi @SeraphimaZykova last night I ran the last update v0.59.1 and now the issue I had came back, and I already tried deleting my layout and redoing it, and it does not work. I used to be able to activate it with the shortcut to fix it, but now that doesn't work either. Can you please help me?

SeraphimaZykova commented 2 years ago

Hi @cocavi, can you please send a new bug report from the latest version? /needinfo

The problem that windows are behind the taskbar looks like this one: https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/10903. Can you please clarify regarding activation with a shortcut, is a problem that the layout is not applied when you press Ctrl + Win + Alt + 2? /needinfo

cocavi commented 2 years ago

Before I used to turn my computer on, press windows + Shift + . and the layout would open, and I would close it and all the windows would set up perfectly. With this new update, I click that shortcut and nothing happens. And I have PowerToys to launch automatically. The shortcut you mentioned also doesn't work. Also all my windows are still showing up behind the taskbar. I have to manually move them.

Hi @SeraphimaZykova I am now getting this message daily when I first open my computer. Please note that I cannot run the app as administrator because I am using my work computer.

image

jaimecbernardo commented 2 years ago

@cocavi , looks like you're trying to open "PowerToys.Settings.exe" directly and that's why this is happening.

Geczy commented 2 years ago

i had this issue as well, i fixed it by changing my taskbar behavior to "show on all displays" . this issue was happening cause i have dual monitors and was only showing taskbar on one, so im assuming fancyzones thought i had no taskbar and just made both fancy zones span the entire monitor height

these are the settings that allow me to have proper constricted zones:

cocavi commented 2 years ago

@Geczy Thank you for this, I just looked and I do not have a Taskbar Behavior menu, it could be because I am only using one screen.

This issue is still happening even after the update.

gamebird92 commented 2 years ago

I am having the same issue: After restarting my computer, fancy zones does not recognize the taskbar on my main monitor. When moving a window into a zone of my main monitor, it get's hidden under the taskbar. After opening FancyZones settings and toggle it off and an, it works perfectly fine.

As someone mentioned above, I do not have a taskbar on my second monitor enabled.

Version v0.61.1

Issue appearing since the last two updates.

cocavi commented 2 years ago

@gamebird92 I found a work arround until they fix this. If you create a new layout using the canvas option, create all your windows but leave a space at the bottom the size of the task bar. When you create a new page it will fit perfectly and sit right after the task bar.

gamebird92 commented 2 years ago

Issue appearing still in v0.63.0 - doesn't matter if there is taskbar enabled or disabled on my secondary screen. Using 34zoll monitor (3440x1440) as main and a 27zoll monitor as secondary (1440 x 2560, portrait mode).

RedFour commented 2 years ago

This issues comes and goes for me for months. Just updated to v0.63 and now my terminal inputs are all hidden under the taskbar.

rowansmithau commented 1 year ago

i started running into this issue after adding a second monitor and found this thread. the issue was only occurring for me on the new monitor. turns out the issue for me was that powertoys seemed to set the 'space around zones' on the new monitor to -10px, once i disabled this the issue went away. hopefully helps someone else.

DavidLafond commented 1 year ago

This is not fix and the problem is not minus pixels on my side. I need to add space around zones of 51pixels to not have the apps under the taskbar.

AlphaeusNg commented 6 months ago

Hi, I'm encountering the same issue where my chrome browser goes beyond the assigned margin.

For example, if you look at the left and right bar, it was supposed to stay within the red line that I've drawn, but in both cases it has over exceeded it.
