Text Extractor to provide user feedback that action has been done #20305

Open Jay-o-Way opened 2 years ago

Jay-o-Way commented 2 years ago

Description of the new feature / enhancement

Right now, the Text Extractor has zero feedback: no sound, no icon, no toast message. It must have at least two.

Scenario when this would be used?

Users need feedback. Either visual and/or auditive.

Supporting information

No response

I think it would be nice to have toast notifications.

rp1231 commented 2 years ago

Yes, a disappearing toast notification with something like Copied to clipboard would be nice to have.

Although I would prefer it if the toast notification wasn't the windows default notification, as it has to be manually dismissed and doesn't disappear on its own. It would get annoying really fast if you use it multiple times

@rp1231 this must be a matter of "personal" settings for notifications?

watchmakerful commented 2 years ago

Maybe even an automatic popup window (Windows Notepad?) with the recognized text.

There's no setting in windows 11 atleast where you can set the notification to disappear on it's own. I'm not sure I understood what you meant.

Jay-o-Way commented 2 years ago

@rp1231 there's a setting for notifications in the Accessibility area, that deal with the time a message is shown before disappearing. By default it is always short (like 5 seconds or so)

watchmakerful commented 2 years ago

It will disappear from the screen, but not from the notification box.

@Jay-o-Way This is what I was referring to. It's annoying to clean up the notification box manually later on.

Jay-o-Way commented 2 years ago

Ohh, I see. Well, there are also settings for that - you can disable specific app notifications. But we're getting way off-topic.

Yep, but I do want the notification in this case 🙃

The module also lacks/needs something (icon and/or text) to show what this is. Somebody who recently updated and presses Win+Shift+T (that is also a Windows hotkey) has no idea what this is.

I think visual feedback is a must. So that I don't accidentally paste an extracted text, that doesn't match the shown text.
