I 100% agree that this should be fixed one way or the other. This is just unacceptable to me.. In older versions of PowerToys (or has to do with my upgrade to Windows 11), this didn't happen. This is the reason I would like to mention that I do not believe this is an "Idea-Enhancement", but rather re-adding what used to be there in the past. @taras-janea
For me simply just using 2 windows next to each other gives a horrific randomly colored line to appear between the 2 windows, as well as at the top of the screen. Simply caused by the desktop background leaking through.
Like @artfxdnb mentioned. The 'solution' here is to change my desktop background to black to make it "not as noticeable", or to manually resize my windows each time I use FancyZones to move any program (partially defeating the purpose of using FancyZones)
Description of the new feature / enhancement
Currently when using a custom layout, there is a 1px space added around each zone automatically that can't be removed, which after snapping windows to zones, shows a 1px strip of my desktop background around each zone. For the predefined layouts there is a setting to increase or reduce the space around zones (including a negative value, which I think would fix this), but that is not there on custom layouts and I would like to see that changed.
Scenario when this would be used?
I use FancyZones to position my software for music production, both during offline work but also during my music production livestreams on YouTube. I have two applications open on my main screen. Ableton Live taking up the majority of the space, except for a small strip near the top of the screen. In that small strip I have another piece of software running (MiniMeters by Direct) that adds audio analyzers so I can see what is going on when making music/sound (see screenshot 1). For MiniMeters I don't need to use zones since the software already remembers the last position it was located in when quitting the application. I position these analyzers on top of the title bar of Ableton Live to give the impression that I'm running the software full screen. MiniMeters is then pinned to top (which is a feature in that application), so it stays on top when I click inside Ableton Live.
I then have 2 overlapping zones that both extend to the edges of the screen on 3 sides (see screenshot 2), one zone is positioned so that when I snap Ableton Live to it, the title bar of the window ends up right behind MiniMeters. The second zone is setup so that when I snap a window to it, the title bar ends up right beneath the MiniMeters window (in case the top menu of the window needs to be used, like when using my browser or other software than Ableton Live)
After snapping windows to the zones I have to manually readjust the windows so I can get rid of the 1px space around my software, mostly visible on the edge of the screen, see included screenshot 3. Notice that on both the left, right and bottom of Ableton Live there is a 1px white border, that is my desktop background visible. Now obviously I can kind of fix this by setting a pitch black desktop background every time I work on music, so the space is not noticeable, but that is more of a workaround than a fix. Plus I would rather not have to do that each time, and instead just be able to leave my desktop background alone.
I also tried using a predefined layout which gives you the option to reduce or increase the space around zones, but it only does so for grid based layouts, while I'm using a canvas layout, to have the two different overlapping zones.
I can think of a few solutions:
Is there a solution for this, or can this be improved if there is no current solution?
