How many apps that you use, still use chm? And how many times do you find yourself thinking "It would be quicker to preview this file instead of opening it?
I just try to understand the use case here.

It's not so much a question of how many applications currently being developed use .chm help systems, but how many have actually been created. For example, at the moment I have 1566 documents in this format on my computer. Of these, 197 are in subfolders of the \Windows\ folder and 34 in the Microsoft Office 2021 folder. Other examples of applications that still publish their manuals in this format:
Description of the new feature / enhancement
Documentation is distributed in a variety of formats: .txt, .htm, .rtf, .doc, .docx, .pdf, and .chm. Previewing with PowerToys (or built-in support for Windows File Explorer) is currently possible for all of the listed formats except the last one. I propose to fix this by adding support for the .chm format.
Scenario when this would be used?
View help documentation without having to open it in a separate application.
